A Study on Perceived Fatigue and Quality of Life in Patients on Hemodialysis

Abstract
Fatigue is a frequent symptom on hemodialysis patients and have various physical or psychological causes, and environmental status.
This study was purposed to identify characteristics of fatigue and the relationship between fatigue and physiological factors, and quality of life in patients on hemodialysis. The 88 subjects were selected among hemodialysis patients who were registered in the two university hospitals and one hemodialysis clinic in Seoul. The analysis of the results were performed through Pearson¢¥s correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression.
The results were as follows:
1. Hemodialysis patients complained above normal range fatigue and had beyond normal range quality of life.
2. There were not significant difference the relationship between fatigue and quality of life(r=.14, p>.05), but were significant difference between fatigue and each factors : there were positive significant difference between fatigue and physical symptom(r=.34, p<.05), emotional status(r=.53, P<.001), and negative significant difference between fatigue, and social activity(r=-.26, p<.05), attitude toward life(r=-.21, p<.05), health perception(r=-.36, p<.01), but not significant difference between fatigue and family support and financial status (r=-.14, p>.05). -
3. There were not significant difference between fatigue and physiological factors (Hgb, Hct, BUN, creatinine, potassium, intradialytic weight)(r=-.09, -.08, .04, -.18, -.16, -10, p>.05).
4. There was the most interpreted factor between fatigue and emotional status among quality of life(R2=.28, p <.001).
